When you are talking about camera phones, you can’t ignore Vivo. They are offering some of the most advanced camera phones in the market. Let’s talk about the new Vivo V40 5G, which was released on August 7. Let’s dive into the details of the Vivo V40.
Box Contents
In the box, we see a beautiful purple-colored back case, an 80W flash charger, a USB-A to USB Type-C cable, a SIM ejector pin, and the usual paperwork. Nothing very fancy about it.

Looks
Today, we have the Vivo V40 Nebula Purple edition. It’s a very beautiful color, and its texture feels fresh, making it feel more premium. It also comes in another color called “Moonlight White,” which is also very beautiful. If you like shiny colors, we recommend the purple one. This phone has a Glass-Plastic-Glass build—glass on the front and back, but plastic in the middle. Vivo has made this phone very slim, with only 7.58mm thickness. It weighs just 190g. It has a ZEISS 50MP camera, a 5500mAh “BlueVolt” battery, a 6.78-inch Curved AMOLED display, and a Snapdragon 7 Gen 3.

To achieve this thinness, Vivo implemented their new technology called “BlueVolt,” which basically refers to a small-sized fast-charging battery. It has also passed the IP68/IP69 rating, so it’s safe from water incidents.
Talking about the camera housing, it has a very unique shape, which they call the “Gemini Ring.” In this ring area, ZEISS has its own logo. On this phone, all 50MP cameras are tuned by ZEISS. It also features the V series Ora-Lighting. However, it lacks a telephoto lens, which is a shame for this device. In this price range, other companies are offering telephoto lenses. Vivo should consider this. Despite this missing feature, the phone offers a lot. It comes with their latest camera sensor, the “ISOCELL GNK.” This sensor is quite large and also has OIS, so gathering light and details is not a problem.

If you don’t know about ZEISS, here’s a short description: ZEISS is a German company founded in 1846. It is a leading company in the world of optics and optical electronics innovation. They typically make microscopes, camera lenses, glasses, and many other optical components. Vivo has been collaborating with ZEISS for a long time. You will have Vivo’s own VVT and color texture, as well as ZEISS’s natural color. In portrait mode, you will get 24mm, 35mm, and 50mm-focused lenses. This means 1x, 1.5x, and 2x zoom.

You can shoot cinematic video at 1080P with 24FPS, and normal video up to 4K at 30FPS. For those who are curious about camera API, this phone has level 3. The display has a resolution of 1.5K and 4500 nits of brightness. That’s why it has a very sharp texture and very good HDR quality. However, this level of brightness is not very effective in daylight. Vivo has implemented the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3, just like the older V30. It’s not a bad chipset. You can play any game smoothly. However, most Vivo users don’t play many games on it; it’s mainly used for regular day-to-day tasks. There are no network issues.
The 5500mAh battery offers excellent support. The phone runs on Android 14 (Funtouch OS) and will receive 3 major updates (Android 15, 16, and 17). While this is decent, it’s not very impressive. This phone comes with 12GB of LPDDR4 RAM and 256GB of UFS 2.2 storage. At this price point, UFS 2.2 is a disappointment. It’s hard to believe Vivo went with this.
In the End
We can say that it has a strong camera setup with ZEISS features, a very good display, a unique design, and great battery life. However, the lack of a telephoto lens and UFS 2.2 storage are the downsides. If you want a camera phone, the Vivo V40 is a decent choice.
